05 Jul vaccine roll-out for sukma contingent gathers pace
Kuching (July 2): Seventy-one more state athletes and coaches from Kuching and Samarahan received their first dose of vaccine under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya yesterday.
Out of the number, five coaches and 55 athletes were from Kuching while 11 athletes were from Samarahan. They are among the numbers of the Sarawak Sukma contingent bound for Sukma Johor 2022.
According to Sarawak Sports Corporation Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ong Kong Swee, they are the second batch of the athletes and officials from Kuching and Samarahan vaccinated and the Sarawak Health Department has set the dates for the vaccination for the athletes and officials who are based in Sibu and Miri.
“The athletes vaccinated today are those aged 18 and above and they are from 22 sports.
“The vaccination programme for Sibu (Central Zone) will be on 7 July at the Sibu Indoor Stadium for 69 athletes/coaches while in Miri, the vaccination for 70 coaches and athletes aged 18 and above will take place at Curtin University on July 13” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
“Some of the coaches and athletes have already received their first dose of vaccine based on the MySejahtera appointments. As for those aged 17 and below, we need to wait for further instruction from the Ministry of Health.
“Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Senadin state assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin will be witnessing the vaccination of the athletes and coaches at Curtin University while Nangka stat assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee will be visiting the athletes and coaches at the Sibu Indoor Stadium” said Ong.
On June 28, the first batch of 154 athletes and 41 elite coaches received their first dose of vaccine at Stadium Perpaduan.
Eight hundred and eight athletes from 31 sports and their coaches as well as Sarawak State Contingent officials are bound for the Sukma Johor next year.
