Sarawak to host 5th International Sports Seminar in February 2018

KUCHING: The 5th International Seminar on Sports and Exercise is to be held in Kuching on 6 – 7 February 2018. The 2-day event is jointly hosted by Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak (MTACYS) through Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and Psychology Institute of Teacher Education, Tun Abdul Razak Campus (IPGKTAR) of Kota Samarahan.

This was announced in a press statement by MTACYS’ minister YB Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who said the seminar will serve as a good avenue for the relevant bodies to focus on diverse sports and exercise psychology.

According to him, the biennia seminar will also provide a good platform for international exchange of knowledge and strategic networking in which 300 delegates from various countries are expected to participate. There will be 18 international speakers and five national speakers.

Among the keynote speakers who are expected to participate are vice president of International Society of Sports Psychology, Professor Dr Young-Ho Kim, vice president of Asian Society of Kinesiology and Asian-Pacific Association of Sport Psychology, Professor Dr Frank Jing-Horng Lu and vice president of Federation Internationale D’Education Physique Asia Associate Professor Dr Wee Eng Hoe. 

Meanwhile, SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee said Sarawak had hosted similar event in 2016 which was the Malaysia Games (Sukma) International Sports Science Conference in conjunction with the 18th Sukma hosted by the State. The previous event attracted over 300 participants and 24 speakers from Australia, China, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.
