08 Sep Sarawak eye one E-sports gold in Johor Sukma
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan has advised E-sports clubs in Sarawak to register with the Sarawak E-sports Association (Sesa).
“E-sports enthusiasts in Sarawak should know that we are serious in developing e-sports which is why we are calling for the various e-sports clubs to be under Sesa. There are many ways which we could help,” he said yesterday, noting that Sesa is the official regulating body for E-sports in the state.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting the D-Virtual Park here which is where the state e-sports team is preparing for the Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Johor next March.
E-sports will be contested for the first time ever in the Sukma series.
“We have good players who we believe can bring glory to the state during the next Sukma games, hence we only want the best facilities for them to prepare. D-Virtual Park here offers very good facilities for them,” he said.
The three e-sports categories to be contested in the upcoming Sukma are Dota 2, Mobile Legends Bang Bang and Pro Evolution Soccer.
According to Snowdan, Sarawak is targetting at least one gold medal from Pro Evolution Soccer in which 18 players will represent the state.
He also revealed that the state government might hold e-sports tournaments in the rural areas throughout the state, depending on the availability of the facilities.
D-Virtual Park is touted as having state-of-the-art virtual reality (VR) facilities.
The assistant minister was accompanied by ministry and Sesa officials during the visit.
