07 Dec YB Minister lead delegation to World Para Swimming 2017 in Mexico
MEXICO: Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, YB Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah recently led a delegation from the state and Malaysia Paralympic Council (MPC) to Mexico to witness staging of the World Para Swimming Championship 2017.
The purpose of the group’s visit there was to observe the running of this year’s World Para Swimming Championship in which Sarawak had won the bid to host the event in 2019.
Apart from witnessing the running of the event, the group went on a tour to see the technical set-up and they met officials from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to discuss the technical and logistical support needed to run the show. The group also visited the international media centre and was briefed on the its operation especially on live telecast and support services to ensure prompt results and streaming.
The next World Para Swimming Championship that will be held in Kuching is expected to attract more than 85 countries with over 1,500 para swimmers. YB Datuk Abdul Karim and his group is also attending the closing ceremony on December 7 and delivered his acceptance speech as the 2019 host.
Among the delegation group members were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Sarawak, YB Datuk Snowdan Lawan, permanent secretary to Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth, Sports Sarawak, Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ong Kong Swee and officials from Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPC).
