Proposed Sarawak Handball Stadium to be ready by 2020

KUCHING – The proposed Handball Stadium to be constructed at Sarawak Sports Complex in Petra Jaya is expected to be ready by the year 2020 and the facility is expected to be the first of its kind in Malaysia.

This was announced by Sarawak’s Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, YB Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who disclosed the RM40 million stadium would be built next to the existing Gymnastics Stadium.

According to him, the proposed project had received the green light by the State Government last year.

“It is high time that Sarawak has a stadium for handball because the sport is now very active and getting very popular especially that we are able to start at school level and expand it to universities,” said YB Dr Abdul Rahman who is also advisor to Sarawak Handball Association (SAHA).

The Pantai Damai assemblyman said Saha president Norani Drahman would sit down with the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Hii Chang Kee to brief him on the details.

Once the stadium is completed, YB Dr Abdul Rahman said Sarawak would be able to organise international handball competitions just like other sports like aquatics, athletics and badminton.
