200 coaches and sports coordinators attended coaching seminar

KUCHING: The recent “Meet the Coaches session-cum-coaching Seminar 2017″ organised by the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) on September 18th received encouraging response with 200 coaches and sports coordinators from all over Sarawak attended the one-day event.

The seminar which was also attended by coaches from the various centres of development in Sarawak was attended by SSC’s coaching panel which included Dr Balbir Singh, his deputy Dr Chin Ngien Siong and a fitness expert from the Institut Sains Negara (ISN) Kuala Lumpur, Andre Richards. They were there to give talks and to get feedbacks from the coaches on relevant matters of mutual interest.

In his welcoming speech, SSC’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ong Kong Swee informed the participants that more relevant professional and training courses will be organised in Sarawak particularly for coaches and sports officials with the aim to further improve sports development and as part of preparation for the next year’s 19th Malaysia Games (19th Sukma) to be held in Perak in 2018.

He also reminded the participants that meeting the high performance standard must come first when it comes to selection of their athletes and they must be transparent and not based on other criteria. Dr Ong added that the coaches must produce quality results and to base it on their key performance index (KPI) that can ensure the success of their continuing efforts of grooming champion athletes .

“Performances must come first and coaches must be transparent when it comes to selection of athletes. They must face the challenges and learn from their mistakes for if we follow these basic rules we can become a sports powerhouse again,” stressed Dr Ong. Meanwhile, Dr Balbir emphasized on a comprehensive coaching development programme which is a must for sports associations in their pursuit of excellence.
