30 Nov SSC to continue support junior badminton development initiatives
KUCHING: Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) together with Sarawak Sports Council (MSN Sarawak) will continue to encourage and support the organising of development programmes among local sports associations with the aim to promote the standard of local sports fraternity.
This was announced by SSC Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ong Kong Swee recently during the closing ceremony of the two-day youth badminton training camp held at Stampark Badminton Hall in BDC Stampin on November 30.
Organised by Kuching Badminton Association (KBA), a total of 110 participants aged between 8 and 14 took part in the event and they received their certificates of participation from Dr Ong who was accompanied by KBA chief coach and head of youth development, Johnny Ng.
Ng is also an instructor with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Coaching Education Panel and he disclosed that the camp is the first time of its kind and KBA aims to continue with it during the school holidays. Ng was assisted by MSN Sarawak Elite Centre coach, Andre Wijaya.
“Through time, there will be a large pool of young talented athletes. Talent scouting will be conducted frequently by the relevant authorities of each sport so that they can be further trained under the corporation’s programmes,” Dr Ong said in his speech while encouraging parents to send their children to take part in sports activities.
