KUCHING: Perak’s Sin Li Jane walked off with the RM20,000 cash prize after emerging champion in the Open Division finals at the Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championship 2019 held at Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa here yesterday.
She was followed by Radin Nur Najwa, Muhd Shafy Zain and Nora Lyana.
In the stepladder finals Li Jane chalked up the score of 232 against Radin Nur Najwa who finished with 214.
Li Jane, 27, improved on her performance at last year’s championship when she finished third.
“I am very glad to won this time. I am happy to be able to perform here and being able to bowl against a lot of good players from around the world and across Asia,” she said.
With regards to her participation in the upcoming SEA Games at the end of the year, she remarked that she has no clue of who will be part of the national team.
When asked whether her performance yesterday would place her in the national team, she said it would still depend on the selection committee.
“During the last SEA Games, we had six players in the team. But for this year, there will be only four players.
“Selection will be very tight and it is important for everyone to be able to perform.
“Right now, we are back to train for the SEA Games and we will wait for the management to announce it,” she added.
Her next tournament is likely to be the PBA-WBT World Bowling Tour in Bangkok, Thailand at the end of this month and then the 25th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Kuwait next month.
Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah officiated at the closing ceremony of the championship.
Among those present were Amateur Bowling (Tenpin) Association of Sarawak (Abas) president Sunny Si, deputy president Robert Lu, Sarawak Education Department director Dr Azhar Ahmad and tenpin bowling legend Amleto Monacelli.

The Sunway Megalanes elite bowler registered 217, 212, 194, 216, 200, 229, 199, 192 and 234, averaging 210 per game over nine games for a total of 1,893 pinfalls to pip compatriot Adri Wafiq Hussin by one pin. Third in the 60-bowler finals was Muhd Mubin Murzany with 1,887 pinfalls.
